Autumn Workshop - Trip to the Tate Modern
Our pupils set off on a creative and fun school trip to London’s Tate Modern, where they immersed themselves in the world of Czech fairy-tale and mythical creatures. The programme, inspired by Czech legends, came alive with stories of water sprites, will-o’-the-wisps, wild women, wood goblins, devils, ghosts, and other mysterious beings well known in Czech culture. The children not only learned many fascinating facts about these creatures but also compared them with similar figures from other cultures.
During the creative workshops at Tate Modern, the children crafted their own little monsters out of paper bags, using a variety of materials such as paper, fabric, colourful markers, and glue. With great enthusiasm, they also made bookmarks shaped like mugs with “souls,” which will serve as a lasting reminder of the trip and Czech fairy tales. In the art corner, they painted stones with fairy-tale motifs and, to round off the day, they tried out interactive painting activities offered by Tate Modern.
The programme was packed with games and activities not only inside the gallery but also outdoors, where pupils competed in “spider races” and searched for words in a spooky puzzle specially prepared in their notebooks. In these notebooks, they also deciphered magical runes, spotted differences between witch illustrations, connected dots to reveal a dragon, and tried to find their way out of an enchanted maze.
The entire event was filled with wonderful energy, laughter, and curiosity. Thanks to this trip, the children not only deepened their knowledge of Czech myths and fairy-tale creatures but also took home unforgettable memories, creative artworks, and the joy of exploring a magical world full not only of monsters but also of imagination. We are looking forward to more adventures in the same spirit.
