Visit of Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines
On Saturday, 27 September, our school had the honour of welcoming Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines — a remarkable guest whose life story is closely connected with Sir Nicholas Winton and the Kindertransport.
Lady Milena shared her deeply moving personal story with our students and parents, speaking about her journey from Czechoslovakia to the United Kingdom and the importance of kindness, courage, and education. Her talk captivated everyone present — children and adults alike — and created a warm and inspiring atmosphere throughout the morning.
During her visit, Lady Milena also observed a Year 7 history lesson, where she was impressed by our students’ knowledge, curiosity, and engagement. She praised both the quality of teaching and the materials used in class.
Parents and students expressed how much they appreciated this exceptional opportunity to meet Lady Milena in person. Some even said they would be delighted to welcome her at their British schools in the future.
At the end of her visit, Lady Milena recommended several books and films related to the Kindertransport and the stories of rescued children. She also shared that she has recently published her own memoir, My Voice: Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines – Don’t Forget Us.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in this unforgettable morning. It was a moment of learning, reflection, and humanity that will stay with us for a long time.
