Neurodiversity and Family

As part of the Adaptive Learning series, an expert webinar titled “Neurodivergence and the Family” was held, offering a comprehensive perspective on the lives of families with neurodivergent children and their siblings. The webinar connected medical, psychological, and social viewpoints, emphasizing that neurodiversity represents a natural variation in human thinking rather than merely a set of diagnoses.

Special attention was given to the impact on the family system, including the role of so-called “glass children” – siblings of children with special needs who often face increased burden, responsibility, and feelings of being overlooked. The discussion also highlighted the need for targeted support and prevention of mental health challenges among these siblings.

The webinar provided practical recommendations for parents and educators, underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, and created space for sharing experiences. The key message focused on strengthening understanding, reducing stigma, and supporting the quality of life of the entire family.
