A Word with a Paediatrician
On 18 April 2026, the educational event “A Word with a Paediatrician” took place, focusing on supporting both children and their parents in the areas of mental health, communication, and neurodiversity.
The programme featured two thematically distinct sessions. The morning session, intended for older children, addressed the management of anxiety, social and communication difficulties, as well as relationship-building. Participants gained practical strategies for coping with classroom overload, establishing daily routines, and developing a better understanding of neurodiverse peers. The session also included a workshop aimed at supporting transitions to secondary school, choices regarding further education or employment, and maintaining personal wellbeing.
The afternoon session, designed for parents, offered practical insights into what approaches in parenting are effective and which are less so, while helping participants distinguish between challenges faced by the child and those experienced by the parent. The discussion covered topics such as puberty, delayed speech development, and neurodiversity. Parents particularly valued the practical guidance on supporting children with autism or ADHD and fostering their healthy development.
The event provided a range of valuable insights and opened up important discussions, equipping both children and parents with tools to better navigate everyday challenges.
